Clara Brugada Proposes Bullfighting Regulation in CDMX

President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed her support for the initiative presented by the Head of Government, Clara Brugada, which proposes to regulate bullfighting to prevent violence against animals. Brugada suggests allowing bullfighting but on the condition that the bull is not harmed or killed during the spectacle, emphasizing the importance of moving towards a cruelty-free change in the city.

In a press conference, Sheinbaum backed Brugada's proposal as a "good solution" to the debate sparked between the bullfighting sectors and animal advocates. The leader recognized the need to protect animals while considering it important to maintain those involved in the bullfighting industry, ensuring respect for the Constitution that mandates the protection of animals.

Brugada's proposal will be discussed by the Constitutional Points Commission of the Congress of Mexico City, after which it is expected to be modified for subsequent approval. The reform, which seeks to regulate an issue that has generated polarization in the capital, will be addressed in Congress next week with the possibility of being approved, thus taking a significant step towards the regulation of bullfighting in the city.
